At the start of the game, each player is dealt a hand of 5 ingredient cards. The 10 bonus cards and the elixir cards are placed on the table, with next to them 6 ingredient cards, representing the market.
During your turn, you’ll perform one out of three possible actions:
1- Draw a card from the draw pile
2- Take a card from the market
3- Trade a card with the market -> place one card into the market and take any number of cards, as long as their sum is equal to the card you played.
Mixing elixirs: If you have several cards of the same colour in your hand, and their total value corresponds to the value of a top elixir card, you can discard these cards and collect the potion card. You may even create more than one elixir in one turn!
Finally you check if you’ve earned bonus cards by meeting the requirements they show.
Each collected elixir and bonus card is worth a point, and the game is over after a player reaches 8 points!
Elixir Mixer comes with simple rules and is clearly targeting families or more casual gamers. The artwork is definitely funny to look at and also the theme is very appealing. At its core Elixir Mixer is an easy-going set collection game, but it’s also perfect to play as a filler or at the end of a gamenight. We did certainly enjoy our plays of it so far – it’s always a big advantage that next to our son, also our 8yo daughter could play along, as imho this game is at its best with 3 or 4 players.
