In this adventure game, players take on the roles of Elliott, Gertie, Michael, or Greg, as they race around the neighborhood to find the parts needed to build a communication device for E.T. The objective of the game is to avoid the federal agents who are determined to capture E.T. and to successfully build the device and get E.T. to the clearing where the mothership will pick him up.
The game mechanics are simple yet challenging, with each player’s turn consisting of three steps: take actions, phone home, and move enemies. The players have the option of taking up to three basic actions and any number of free actions, such as moving, taking candy, picking up items, using E.T.’s power cards, or teaming up with other kids.
Players also have the opportunity to phone home, which involves rolling all the device dice in the Forest Clearing. If there are no device dice in the clearing, this step is skipped. The move enemies step requires players to roll the two dark blue enemy dice, as well as the red danger die if they are in the same space as E.T. or another kid. The result of the roll determines how the enemies will move and players must navigate their way around them, avoiding getting caught at all costs. If E.T. or any of the kids get caught, the Heartlight Dial goes down, so the players must work to get E.T. away from the Special Agent Keys.

The E.T. figure and the device dice fit conveniently inside the kids’ bicycle baskets, adding to the game’s immersive feel. The beautifully illustrated cards and game board bring the classic film to life, and the mothership can even be flown around the board until it rescues E.T.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: Light Years From Home is a co-operative game, which means that players must work together to achieve their goal. It’s important for players to communicate and coordinate their actions.
One strategy that players can employ is to divide and conquer. Players can split up to cover more ground and find the parts needed to build the communication device more quickly. It’s also important for players to use E.T.’s power cards to their advantage. For example, if a player finds themselves in a tight spot, they can use E.T.’s ‘Flying Kids’ power card to get away from the agents.
Another strategy is to prioritize the Heartlight Dial. Players should work to keep the Heartlight Dial high, as a low dial means that E.T. and the kids are in more danger of being caught. If E.T. or any of the kids get caught, players should work together to get them away from the Special Agent Keys.
Finally, players should keep an eye on the cops: when they block off the clearing the players lose the game. This means the game has a time limit and players must successfully build the communication device and get E.T. to the clearing before time runs out.

In conclusion, the E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: Light Years From Home Game is a truly remarkable and exhilarating cooperative game that requires players to work hand in hand and communicate effectively to achieve their ultimate goal. The game boasts a captivating storyline, gorgeous illustrations, and simple yet complex gameplay mechanics, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a fun-filled gaming experience.
However, there is the potential for repetition after multiple plays, as the game’s objectives and flow remain constant. To tackle this, players can experiment with new roles and tactics each time they play, ensuring that the game remains fresh and engaging. Despite this minor limitation, the overall excitement, challenge, and enjoyment the game offers far outweighs any drawbacks.
In summary, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: Light Years From Home Game is a must-have for fans of the classic movie or for anyone seeking an exciting cooperative gaming experience. With its engaging gameplay, stunning illustrations, and captivating storyline, it is guaranteed to provide hours of fun and joy.
