In the world of trading card games, every so often a fresh breeze enters the scene. Today we spotlight the brand new game, D-Spirits, which we had the unique opportunity to test using a sample deck, generously provided by White Goblin Games.
📚 According to legend, the D-Spirits were once powerful entities wreaking havoc across the land. A scientist, however, found a way to capture these creatures by sealing them into cards. Today, these D-Spirits can be summoned to assist you and your friends in battles against other players. The aim of the game, in addition to collecting all the D-Spirits, is to defeat your opponents by deploying your D-Spirits, thereby draining them of their spirit points. If you can make your rival lose all their spirit points first, you win the game.
🎮 D-Spirits is designed for two players, with the game continuing until one player loses all their Spirit Points. The game starts by setting up the field and drawing 7 cards each. On their turn, a player first draws a card, then plays a card and attack the opponent. The game ends when a player loses all their Spirit Points.
🃏 Each D-Spirit has its unique attributes and belongs to a type, such as wind, beast, or poison. The D-Spirits possess three types of points: Spirit Points, Power Points, and Endurance Points. A D-Spirit can defeat another if its Power Points are higher than its enemy’s. Upon defeat, the D-Spirit leaves the field and enters the D-world, reducing the player’s Spirit Points accordingly. Importantly, each D-Spirit has a unique skill that can turn the tide of battle, meaning a more powerful D-Spirit doesn’t always guarantee victory.
🎲 After playing the game with the sample deck, we are truly captivated by the gameplay of D-Spirits. The game initially emerged as a successful Kickstarter project, and it’s easy to see why. Not only are the illustrations of the cards truly a sight to behold, the game mechanics are also accessible to all players. The rule of decreasing your opponent’s Spirit Points to zero gives a clear goal and adds a level of suspense and thrill to the gameplay. There is an element of luck involved, but overall, the game relies heavily on player strategy. The unique abilities each D-Spirit holds give a substantial amount of depth to the game. The wide array of cards available in the game offers extensive possibilities for game strategies and deck building.
