The 2 wizards are located in the central room of the Palace of
Quinousän, in the Lost Labyrinth. During a turn, players may perform up to 2 main actions, which allow them to move the palace floors, or move or activate their wizard to flip an adjacent palace tile. Their goal is to form a pattern in their own color that matches the depicted cards in the Library of Spells, which earns them points and deals damage to the opponent. Once fulfilled, these cards can be used further on in the game to cast spells that give you various benefits, with the rule being: the more difficult the pattern, the more powerful the spell.
The game ends when one of the players manages to inflict 16 damage on his opponent, and the winner becomes the new guardian of the Gem of Vrinolur!

The rules of SPELL seem simple at first glance, but make no mistake: there is a lot involved in this game. After a few rounds you’ll see all the possibilities the game has to offer, as you search for combos between patterns and meanwhile try to prevent your opponent from becoming too powerful.
The gameplay feels rather abstract but that didn’t really bother us while playing, the amount of depth and variety that the advanced version of the game brings really feels great. If you’re looking for a solid 2 player dueling game, you should definitely try out SPELL!
