We all know that board game night is the best, until it comes time to pack everything back into the box. Most games arrive with baggies or flimsy plastic inserts that barely do justice to the beautiful components inside. That’s why we were excited to try out wooden inserts from Laserox. Today, we’re sharing our experience with two inserts, one for Shipyard and one for Septima, and why we think they might be just what you need to keep things neat.
Shipyard Wooden Insert ⚓
After an exciting round of Shipyard (the new 2023 edition from @deliciousgamesboard is a visual treat with its wooden cannons, sails, and detailed crew), our real challenge began: storing it all. We honestly felt like we were playing Tetris on expert mode, especially when dealing with the new crane display. That’s when the Laserox wooden insert stepped in and turned chaos into order.
One of the parts we really enjoy is how the crane display folds into a storage box. The decorative top acts as a lid to neatly hold all the ship tiles, and the trays for crew and equipment, shaped like ship keels with charming engraved lids, make everything snap into place. It’s a relief to see every piece with its own slot, making cleanup a whole lot less stressful.

Septima Wooden Insert 🌿
We also got our hands on the new Septima wooden insert, and it’s quickly become a must-have for our game nights. We’ve all been there: setting up a game can sometimes feel like navigating an obstacle course, and tidying up is no different. With this insert, every component has its own dedicated tray, so nothing gets mixed up.
The engraved wooden details bring a warm, rustic touch that fits perfectly with Septima’s woodland theme. And putting it together is surprisingly easy; you don’t have to be a DIY expert (trust us, our DIY attempts are more funny than flawless!) to assemble it. The end result is a beautifully organized game box that makes both setup and cleanup feel like a natural part of the evening.

Our Thoughts
In our experience, wooden inserts turn game storage from a messy afterthought into something almost artistic. The natural wood grain and detailed engravings give your game a look that’s both elegant and timeless, making each opening feel a bit like discovering a hidden treasure. It really changes the whole setup and cleanup process into something satisfying rather than a chore.
There is one small catch, though. Wooden inserts are quite heavy, so your game box ends up feeling noticeably heavier. If you like taking your games on the go, this extra weight might be a slight downside. Still, if you value a tidy, beautifully organized game box, a wooden insert might just be worth the extra heft.
